Symposium Description

During this Symposium, we will take an HVAC systems approach to “revolutionize” air handler design strategy through a comparative/contrasting look at two air handlers – one representing a “pre-revolution” design, the other a “post-revolution” design. From a distance, these air handlers may look very similar. Only when we look closely can we see and experience their differences and how those differences matter to their owners.

We will accomplish this through an exploration of the following:

  • Purpose of HVAC systems for buildings with occupants
  • Role of the air handler in HVAC systems for buildings with occupants
  • Characteristics* of a “pre-revolution” air handler design
  • Technologies that should influence air handler design strategy (ECM fans, hybrid IAQ systems, factory-integrated controls, sound management)
  • Energy management methods that should influence air handler design strategy (lower component face velocities, injected foam insulation, high coil delta T’s, energy recovery)
  • Characteristics* of a “post-revolution” air handler design

Summary of recommendations for revolutionary air handler designs that will serve your customers for the life of the unit
